Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and Nikkei, Inc., parent company of the Financial Times, the publisher of the Nikkei, and the Nikkei Asian Review, announced today a new $100,000 scholarship for a student who is a resident in Asia.

The Columbia-Nikkei Scholarship will be awarded annually for the next five years to exemplary candidates who wish to specialize in data and business journalism. Each September, the school will announce whether it seeks scholarship applicants interested in business and data journalism.

About the Columbia Journalism School

For more than a century, the school has been preparing journalists in programs that stress academic rigor, ethics, journalistic inquiry and professional practice. Founded with a gift from Joseph Pulitzer, the school opened its doors in 1912 and offers Master of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Science in Data Journalism, a joint Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Journalism, and Doctor of Philosophy in Communications. It houses The Columbia Journalism Review, The Brown Institute for Media Innovation, The Tow Center for Digital Journalism, and The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma.

The application deadline for both programs is December 15, 2017.

Students who qualify for the scholarship and who apply for financial aid will be automatically considered for this and other scholarship opportunities. No separate application is required.
